[edit] Purpose

This template is used to label a redirect as being for a subsidiary title in the peerage system - an hereditary title held by a royal or a noble but which is not regularly used to identify that person.

This template marks a redirect as one that ought not be used, and provides the correct hereditary title. Any link to a redirect page transcluding this template ought to be changed to the correct hereditary title.

This template inserts the redirect into this category:

With a correct hereditary title specified for all uses of this template repairing links to the redirect page becomes simple: the link to the redirect page should be changed to the link to the correct hereditary title. Given the correct hereditary title is specified for each case below, it should always be easy to fix links these redirects.

[edit] Usage

correct hereditary title There is one parameter, unnamed. It specifies the optional correct hereditary title.

[edit] Redirect target is the correct hereditary title

R from subsidiary title

When the correct hereditary title is the target of the redirect just use ; the correct hereditary title is already available as an article.

Example:

Baron De La WarrEarl De La Warr
#REDIRECTBaron De La Warr
R from subsidiary title
It is acceptable but unnecessary to specify the redirect target as the correct hereditary title:
#REDIRECTBaron De La Warr
Earl De La Warr

[edit] Redirect target only mentions subject

correct hereditary title

When linking to article where the subject is only mentioned in the target article, the correct use is , and correct hereditary title is expected to be a redirect page also redirecting to TargetPage. That is, if this redirect is an incorrect hereditary title but the target article isn't the correct hereditary title, there should be a matching redirect for the correct hereditary title.

[edit] Redirect targets a #section or #anchor

correct hereditary title

When linking to a section or anchor within an article such as #REDIRECTTargetPage#section name, the correct use is , and correct hereditary title is expected to be a redirect page also redirecting to TargetPage#section name. That is, if this redirect is an incorrect hereditary title, there should be a matching redirect for the correct hereditary title.
